Useful Travel Websites

These are some of the websites that have made my trips possible, especially when it had to be on very low-budget (almost always).

  • https://www.couchsurfing.com/ – Discovering this site was a real treasure for me. This is the social network of travelers and for meeting people from all over the world. It gives you the opportunity not only to meet incredibly interesting people, but also to find free shelter and pleasant company in an unfamiliar place or to be a host and guide. I have visited over 10 people in 8 different countries and I want to say that it is an amazing opportunity! *Buut, it also has its risks, so you need to carefully research in advance whom do you go to and whether the person is reliable !!
  • https://www.busradar.com/ – Gives you the opportunity to find incredibly cheap tickets by comparing the best prices on trains, buses and shared cars. Thanks to this site I went from Brussels to Paris for 1 euro!
  • https://www.airbnb.com/ – A website where you can find luxury, central, cheap or all at once places to spend the night. With it we slept in an amazing old house in Amsterdam. Something like a private hotel system for renting a room or apartment. It is especially convenient if you travel with several people.
  • https://www.blablacar.com/ – Shared travel website. You probably know the Facebook group for travelers between Stara Zagora and Sofia. Imagine similar, but much larger. This way you can move from point A to B relatively cheaply and by meeting interesting people. The system is quite well developed, each driver has a profile and additional information. *Here again is the warning sign to be careful and study the driver in advance as much as possible.
  • http://www.skyscanner.net/ – Airline ticket website, compares the prices of individual airlines and finds the best option. I personally use it to gather information, but I never buy through it, I advise you not to use intermediaries. Once you choose the date and airline, go to the airline’s website and get your ticket directly from there.
  • http://hitchwiki.org/ – The Hitchhiker’s Encyclopedia. Contains maps, tips and generally quite useful information. If you have decided to choose the most alternative way for a low-budget trip, you can take a look at this website. I haven’t used it yet, but it certainly would had been helpful and would have saved me a bit of waiting when I was getting out of Frankfurt last spring. *Let me remind you to be careful again!
  • https://magelanci.com/forums/ – In Bulgarian. Contains very interesting and useful information shared by other travelers. This is a small social network for Bulgarian adventure seekers in distant lands.
